Random Words Wednesday

WE stood around for a few good minutes while one guy served the people behind us, after they wandered away and still no one had asked us “do you need any help?”, a man came trundling past on a stock-mover.

He stared blankly at my husband and finally said “were you looking for something?”.

“Nah, mate. After someone to show us these video cameras.” (NB, the ones we were standing in front of and had been pointedly making noise over, in the hopes someone would approach us).

Unbeknowst to the staff at this store, we were ready to part with our hard-earned dosh for a new cam-corder, the likes of which would capture our youngest and her persistent singing and pirouetteing.

Blank-stare man said he’d get someone to help us, and trundled slowly away on his little motorized, cherry-picker thing-a-mee.

So we kept waiting. And waiting. And waiting.

I stuck my head over the shelf to see him playing with more boxes, not – as he had suggested – getting someone to help us.

I have very little tolerance for poor customer service, particularly when I have two children in tow. Be quick about it, I always say.

“Come on,” I said to husband. “Let’s go.”

Only as he saw us heading for the exit did Blank-Stare Drongo say to someone else – and I quote – “Stop those guys. Show them the cameras.”

Stop those guys?! Honestly.

“I don’t know much about the cameras,” replied second man loudly. Rolling my eyes, I told him not to bother.

“I can show you the basics,” he quickly added.

“No,” I told him. “We’ve been waiting for ages, so we’re just going to go now.”

And out the store we went, taking our hundreds of dollars with us.

One small step towards the exit, one giant leap in securing customer satisfaction.

Pete-out, bitches!

The sad thing is… we probably won’t find a better deal (considering our locale!) and we’ll have to go back and hope we’re not recognised!
